Election Reports
On 20 February President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that South Afica would hold its general election on 29 May 2024. This election will include national and provincial elections and will see the introduction of the country's new electoral system. The upcoming election is expected to be the most competitive in South Afica's democratic era as several polls suggest that support for the ruling African National Congress(ANC) could fall well below the 50% mark and the party could even lose control as many as three provinces. There is a stong possibility that economically vital provinces such as Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal(KZN) could be governed by coalition governments in the wake of the elections, which is, itself cause for concern. Coalition governments have had mixed record in South Afica at a municipal level and, accordingly, the posibility of coalition governments at a provincial or even national level does raise questions about the country's long term stability. As such, it is essential to have a keen understanding of the country's political dynamics ahead of and following the 2024 general election. to address this need Executive Reseach Associates(ERA) is offering a package of two reports, focusing on the pre-and post-election scenarios respectively.
